I get to work with many creators and founders.
Once their business starts rolling with revenue they inevitably come to a stumbling block. They want increased revenue but in doing so they want to provide tangible data about what and how they do business produces better outcomes.
I tell them you can legally manufacture data. It’s simple. Maybe even easy?
This sounds concerning but rest assure you aren’t bribing anyone here. All you need to do is measure performance.
Provide a quantitative assessment before a client does business with you. Then once they’ve gone through your remarkable service produce this assessment again. Now compare a before and after of your questions. There you go, you have legally manufactured data.
It’s first-party insights you own. No one can steal them from you. And the neat part is people and news outlets love this stuff. They love data and catchy headlines with numbers attached to them. You know the ones…”study suggest 38% of people sleep better after so and so?”
The amount of questions is up to you and the nature of your business. But I normally see 30-50 questions being used.
You can provide this quantitative assessment:
- Before starting a talk at a paid consultation gig or conference
- On signup from a qualified customer for your flagship product
- Before running a workshop
- Before tutoring a group of students
You get the point.
FYI this isn’t anything new. The NHS does an annual National NHS Staff Survey to retrain staff according to found support gaps. You’ve probably been part of one before at work.
But for this case we are using it to create tangible data for your business. Make use of it. Place and tag it on your marketing materials next to your testimonials. Tell others how “after your 1-on-1, Quads for the Gods training sessions, 90% of your customers feel more confident about doing 20 mile hikes.”
