Hello, I’m your host Eloy and responsible for about everything on this site.
This is Founders Reach where I share insights from my lived experiences of 8+ years in tech and opinions working in the field since 2011.
Around 2015 I got my professional start in tech where I got to touch on several technical domains like technical writing, server management, and web application development. Eventually it led to a career working in various industries from digital marketing, e-com, corporations, and being a founding developer of 2 startups.
Early startup days, building dashboards that provide actionable insights.
They all contained their merits and shortcomings.
In time, I noticed the real leverage in successful products and work came from distribution rather than limited technical knowledge.
The knowledge is still required of course but we are closing into an era where building digital assets is increasingly cheaper. The differentiating outcomes come from the ability to manufacture demand rather than supply it – a complete 180 from our ancestral origins.
Building demand for products comes in many forms (see Google’s Zero Moments of Truth) and they can look like this:
- online assessments
- podcast episodes
- a book
- reports and white papers
- online videos
- blogs and articles
- active social media accounts
- images, infographics
- animated explainers
- learning portals
- vision, mission, origin overview
- info about the founders and team
- awards and accreditations
The list is long with explanations wide and miles in depth.
Most people are woefully unprepared for building a business.
They like the idea and risk of owning a business, yet underestimate key characteristics of building one. So people find themselves struggling often scratching their heads in confusion.
Today I work in capacity as a fractional marketing and product developer for early stage founders – building out assets which increase demand for their products or services.
My belief is simple. Value is created in the ecosystem – and not in ONE particular service or product.
Where you find profitable businesses with more work than they can handle, you find a wealth of assets in their product ecosystem.
These businesses possess rare and protected forms of leverage.
You may have $100K in the bank, but they own a Youtube channel with 500K subscribers, a large email list, and own their distribution. You may own tools such as pots and pans, but they have a Michelin star rating and thriving social media accounts.
These businesses in return possess:
- “With or without you” energy.
- Owners can take vacations without fear of missing out.
- Are oversubscribed with more demand than supply.
- Take home generous profits relative to effort expended.
It’s all about the product ecosystem. And it looks like this.
